StructuralEngineering

The mission of the Structural Engineering Program at The University of Texas at Austin is excellence in structural engineering education, research, and professional service. Our program educates students to assume leadership positions in engineering practice, research and education. Our program also seeks to advance the state of the art and practice in structural engineering through fundamental and applied research at the frontiers of knowledge.

Current research in Structural Engineering is directed at developing innovative new concepts that can be applied to new structures and for extending the life of existing structures. Research is also addressing the performance of structures under extreme loads including wind, earthquake, fire and blast. Work is also on-going in modeling the dynamic response of structures, progressive collapse, and the development of sensors for civil infrastructure and structural health monitoring.
