Geotechnical Engineering

Geotechnical engineering at Texas CAEE explores how the Earth itself supports and interacts with human-made structures, from skyscrapers to coastal levees.
By combining advanced research in soil mechanics, foundation design and natural hazard mitigation, our faculty and students develop innovative solutions that make infrastructure safer, more resilient and more sustainable for a rapidly changing world.
Our instructional and research programs maintain a strong balance between the experimental, analytical, theoretical and applied aspects of geotechnical engineering. The program has been deliberately designed to offer a broad range of activities, with a solid basis in the core areas of geotechnical engineering and opportunities for students to participate in research at the forefront of developments in the field. Our graduates obtain an education that serves as a foundation for successful careers in geotechnical engineering practice or academia.
