Blair Johnson is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, entitled “Stratified Mixing in Sheared and Zero-Mean-Shear Turbulent Environments.”

Ashray Saxena, a doctoral student in civil engineering, has been honored as one of the ten 2023 New Faces of Civil Engineering Professionals by ASCE. This award is given to highly influential engineers under 30 years old and within the first decade of their careers.

The National Academy of Engineering has elected Alumnus Fariborz Maseeh, who received a master’s degree in civil engineering in 2008 from UT Austin, to the Academy for 2023.

The Academy of Distinguished Alumni inducted two posthumous members for the first time in its history. The two members, T.U. Taylor and Ervin S. Perry, were renowned throughout the University as pioneers, each achieving a number of firsts in their individual careers. They were inducted on November 4, 2022 at the annual Academy Induction Ceremony and Banquet held at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center.

Lance Manuel has been elected to serve a 3-year term, beginning November 1, on the Marine Board, which is a program unit under the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) and provides independent, objective advice to inform policy with evidence, spark progress and innovation, and confront challenging issues for the benefit of society.

Established in 2003, the Outstanding Young Alumni Award recognizes an undergraduate, master and/or doctorate graduate of the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering. This award is given to an alumnus under the age of 40 who has distinguished him or herself with outstanding service and contributions to the engineering profession and community. For 2022, Lee Blaney has been named the CAEE Oustanding Young Alumnus.

CAEE is excited to welcome Jun-Whan Lee, Christopher Rausch, C. Tyler Dick, Yulan (Emma) Zhang and Alexandra Saracho to the department! This esteemed group of cross-disciplinary faculty will bring expansive knowledge and research to the CAEE faculty.
