  • an effect that leads to the development of malignant cells.
  • if dose > 0 (no threshold) then risk > 0.
  • slope factor represents incremental risk per unit dose (at low doses).
  • Slope Factor (SF) (also called potency value (PV))
    • the upper 95th percent confidence limit on the probability of a response per unit intake of chemical(s) of concern over a lifetime.
    • implies that there is only a 5% chance that the probability of response (cancer) would be greater than the estimated value on the basis of experimental data and model use.
