Notes:
More specifically, the digital facility description is the description of natural and man-made features and information about physical, geological, hydrological, and chemical characteristics of the facility and region. The first major component of the digital facility description is the spatial database that consists of the GIS coverages of regional and facility geographic features. Regional characteristics include land use, soil data, and climate data. Facility characteristics include storage tanks, sewer lines, and surface cover. The coverages needed for the analysis were determined up front based on the questions that are to be answered by the applications -- i.e., what exposures and therefore what risk are we trying to characterize?
The second major component of the digital facility description is the tabular database that consists of environmental measurements and facility feature descriptions.
