Calculating RBSL (RBEL)
Using the intake equation and setting the target risk or hazard quotient, solve for the concentration
The resulting concentration is the RBSL or RBEL
Correct slope factor for carcinogens
- oral (ingestion)
- dermal (dermal contact)
- inhalation unit risk factor (inhalation) or inhalation slope factor
Correct reference doses for non-carcinogens
- oral (ingestion)
- dermal (dermal contact)
- reference concentration (inhalation) or inhalation reference dose
Notes:
Inhalation unit risk value already accounts for the inhalation rate
The inhalation reference dose was commonly used until recently; reference concentrations are also being used now. They account for the inhalation rate as well.
