Exposure Assessment
Chemical intake depends on
- chemical concentration in the media that comes in contact with receptor (air, soil, water, food).
- intake rate (for example, soil or water ingested, air inhaled) or contact rate (for example, dermal contact).
- frequency and duration of intake or contact.
- absorption factor (applied dose vs. absorbed dose)
- there is significant controversy and uncertainty concerning this factor.
Notes:
Describe the difference between applied and absorbed dose. - not all of the COC ingested is actually absorbed by the body
Note difference between oral absorption and dermal absorption.
Explain that absorption factor may also also be referred to as bio-availability.
