Notes:
Risk assessment is the PROCESS of evaluating the risks associated with the presence and fate and transport of chemicals in the environment. It involves analyzing the sources of a release: when a release occurred, how much was released. It involves analyzing the transport of chemicals in the environment. You can see some of the potential transport pathways in this figure. Risk assessment also involves analyzing the risks to human and ecological receptors based on the exposures to different chemicals of concern. Each source can be associated with multiple transport pathways, and each receptor could be affected by many exposure pathways.
