VEMAP: 100 years of climate data
Historical precipitation and temperature data from over 10,000 weather stations interpolated on 0.5° cells for the U.S.
Notes:
Climate data used in this project were provided by the Vegetation/EcosystemModeling and Analysis Project (VEMAP)
VEMAP interpolated climate data to a 0.5° by 0.5° grid
- Precipitation measurements from 8,500 climate stations
- Temperature measurements from 5,500 temperature stations
Precipitation increases to the east; study region average is 2.5 inches/month
Temperature increases to the south; study region average is 67°F
Data covers an extensive time period: January 1895-December 1993
-A kriging method was used to compensate for years with less data
