Environmental Data and Education on the Internet - An Overview of Current Technology
TABLE OF CONTENTS
ABSTRACT
Internet technology is evolving at a very fast rate. Keeping track of the progress on "the net" can be a full-time job in itself and the general user can not be expected to understand all aspects of the Internet. However, because the Internet is playing and increasingly large role in our professional and personal lives it is important to have an overview of the current technology.
This paper summarizes current Internet technology related to the environmental field. An overview of what’s new out there is presented in a simple understandable form. The topics discussed are:
- Java programs
- Real-time data servers
- Map/GIS servers
An attempt will be made to show live examples of the above. The back-up slides will be used if there is too much traffic on the Internet.
