Where Cockrell Ranks Among Top Undergrad Programs

The Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin once again ranks among the nation’s top engineering schools.

Texas Engineering finished 11th in the nation in the 2026-2027 U.S. News & World Report undergraduate engineering rankings (No. 6 among public universities and No. 1 in Texas).

Petroleum and geosystems engineering was ranked the No. 1 program in the nation in its category. Three other programs ranked in the top five (chemical engineering, civil engineering and environmental engineering), and nine specialty programs landed in the top 10.

Two of these top programs, petroleum and geosystems engineering and chemical engineering, are getting set to move into their new home on campus, the Autry C. Stephens Engineering Discovery Building.

Materials checked in at No. 17 despite not having a formal undergraduate program at UT. That will change next year when the first cohort in the new Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering program begin their studies.

The Cockrell School is home to more than 6,000 undergraduate students across its 11 undergraduate degree programs. These courageous engineers participate in hands-on, team-based projects to solve real-world problems.
