Steve Wright, professor emeritus in Geotechnical Engineering, was selected to receive the 2013 H. Bolton Seed Medal from ASCE.

The Seed Medal recognizes outstanding contributions to teaching, research and/or practice in geotechnical engineering.

He is being recognized for his numerous and fundamental contributions in the areas of stability analysis of earth slopes and the characterization of soil shear strength. Wright will receive the award and give his Seed Lecture at the ASCE Geo-Institute meeting in San Diego in March.

Stephen G. Wright is a professor emeritus in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering, all from the University of California at Berkeley.

Wright’s areas of teaching and research include geotechnical engineering, with a specialization in slope stability problems and computer applications. His recent research projects have been focused on slope reinforcement, submarine slope stability in deep water (> 1000 meters) and three-dimensional slope stability.
