Salvatore Salamone has been selected to receive project funding by the Vice President of Research’s Office as part of the inaugural Associate Professors Experimental (APX) initiative.
After the inaugural APX retreat last fall, the VPR’s Office granted funding to several outstanding research proposals, including Salamone’s “Sensitive Detection of Anxiety State Using Guided Ultrasonic Waves” proposal, co-authored with Michael Drew in the Department of Neuroscience. This project proposes to use guided ultrasonic waves to observe anxiety behavior in freely moving mice.
The inaugural APX retreat was hosted by the VPR for newly minted associate professors. During the retreat, faculty members organized into small teams and had 24 hours to submit a research funding proposal. The proposals were reviewed by senior faculty peers with relevant expertise, who provided some insights to help sharpen the project.
Salamone specializes in structural engineering, with research interests in structural health monitoring, non-destructive evaluation, ultrasonic sensing methods for smart structures, and digital signal processing and pattern recognition.
Salamone’s and Drew’s research will begin this spring.
