Professor Lance Manuel and his former Ph.D. student and postdoctoral fellow, Hieu Nguyen (Ph.D. 2012), received the Best Paper Award at the Ocean Renewable Energy Symposium during the ASME OMAE (Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering) Conference.
The paper was co-authored by three Italian researchers from Florence and Rome, representing collaborative research among the participants.
The team was recognized for the paper “Irregular Nonlinear Wave Simulation and Associated Loads on Offshore Wind Turbines,” which describes the simulation of extreme loads on a shallow-water offshore wind turbine.
The award was presented at the OMAE-2014 Conference held June 9-12 in San Francisco, California.
