Maseeh Innovation Competition

Where Ideas Can Become Realities

The Maseeh Innovation Competition is designed to inspire commercialization, foster collaboration and encourage entrepreneurial thinking across disciplines.

What to Expect

The Fariborz Maseeh Department of Civil. Architectural and Envionmental Engineering has partnered with the Texas Innovation Center to challenge the next generation of entrepreneurs through the Maseeh Innovation Competition. This two-round competition will bring together students from diverse backgrounds to transform innovative ideas into viable companies.

Participants will partner with other CAEE students, McCombs business students and other collaborators across the Forty Acres as they create their pitches and workshop ideas. Networking opportunities are a major benefit to the competition, as students have the opportunity to connect with faculty, alumni and leaders of industry through this multi-part event.

Competition Structure

The Maseeh Innovation Competition takes place over several weeks through a combination of networking and practice pitch events, followed by an elimination round and final round to select the winners.

  • Initial Information Session: An opportunity for CAEE students and faculty to learn more about the competition, partnership opportunities and how to get involved.
  • Student & Faculty Pitch Events: To help teams form and develop ideas, multiple networking and pitching events will be held prior to the first-round submission. These events aim to connect CAEE students with business students and other potential collaborators.
  • Competition Round 1: Teams compete to win financial prizes and mentorship opportunities by submitting a short video and an executive summary.
  • Competition Round 2: Finalists from Round 1 will make their pitches live to a panel of judges including venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and faculty members.

Fariborz Maseeh, alumnus of the Cockrell School of Engineering

On September 27, 2023, The University of Texas at Austin and the Cockrell School of Engineering celebrated the official naming of the Fariborz Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering.

Maseeh’s philosophy of “engineering the big” is about tackling the challenges of tomorrow by thinking big picture today. The Maseeh Innovation Competition embodies this philosophy by nurturing the innovative spirits of CAEE students as they design solutions for tomorrow’s problems.
