Dr. Michael C. Walton is a renowned Professor of Civil Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, holding the Ernest H. Cockrell Centennial Chair in Engineering and a joint appointment in the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. With over 45 years in transport systems engineering and policy analysis, he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1993. Dr. Walton has held significant leadership roles, including past Chair of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), and the Transportation and Development Institute of ASCE. He was a founding member and Chair of the Intelligent Transportation Society (ITS) of America and has served on numerous advisory and national study panels. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Distinguished Member of ASCE, ITS Hall of Fame inductee, and the George S. Bartlett Award. His other honors include the OPAL award from ASCE, the Frank Turner Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Transportation from the TRB, and induction into the Texas Transportation Hall of Honor. Dr. Walton has contributed extensively to transportation research, publishing widely and delivering hundreds of technical presentations. He maintains research and consulting relationships with international universities and firms, serving on several Boards of Directors.
