Undergraduate FAQs
The Fariborz Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering has a variety of resources and information available for prospective and current undergraduate students.
Application and Admissions
There are currently no precise minimum admissions requirements to be admitted into UT civil, architectural or environmental engineering programs, as they change on a yearly basis depending on the pool of applicants.
The Office of Admissions reviews all applications and makes decisions using a holistic review process. Students who have automatic admission to UT do not obtain a guaranteed spot in the Cockrell School of Engineering; admission into engineering is also based on a variety of factors.
The entire application is taken into consideration, so we recommend spending a considerable amount of time working on the essays, letters of recommendation, resumes, etc.
- First-Year Students:
- Summer/Fall semester applications are due by December 1
- Spring semester applications are not currently accepted for CAEE undergraduate programs.
- Transfer Students:
- Summer/Fall semester applications are due by March 1
- Spring semester applications are not currently accepted for CAEE undergraduate programs.
The application and all required documents must be received by these deadlines. We recommend that you stay up-to-date with the admissions process by visiting the Office of Admissions website.
No. Currently, we only accept applications for the summer and fall semesters.
UT students who were not admitted into the civil, architectural or environmental engineering programs can refer to the Internal Transfer Application Instructions provided by the Cockrell School of Engineering.
If you have earned a bachelor’s degree from a different university, you would apply for admission to CAEE as an external transfer student.
Cost and Financial Aid
All first-time college students are considered for scholarships if they complete the scholarship application by December 1. The Cockrell School of Engineering Scholarship Office makes scholarship decisions. The college and department distribute scholarships based on several criteria, including a combination of high school rank, quantitative scores on the SAT/ACT and financial need.
A student who does not receive a scholarship prior to their first semester is eligible to receive one when first-semester grades are posted. Currently, any student receiving a 3.0 or higher in residence GPA who has completed the engineering scholarship application is eligible to be considered for a departmental scholarship.
