Architectural Engineering Professor Jeffrey Siegel has conducted research on particulate fouling of HVAC heat exchangers, energy and indoor air quality consequences of duct failures and building simulation.

At the University of Texas at Austin, the Department of Civil Architectural, and Environmental Engineering is subdivided into six technical areas, listed and linked on the left. Undergraduate and graduate students have different options, with undergraduate options further varying by major. All students have access to and can benefit from the department's program in Engineering Communication.

There are very active research programs in all of the technical areas represented by the department. More information about area-specific research conducted in CAEE can be found by following the links in the menu on the left.

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students majoring in Civil Engineering can specialize in one of the following technical areas by taking electives in that area.

  • Construction Engineering and Project Management
  • Construction Materials
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Transportation Engineering
  • Water Resources Engineering

Similarly, undergraduate students majoring in Architectural Engineering can specialize in one of the following technical areas by taking electives in that area.

  • Building Energy and Environments
  • Construction Engineering and Project Management
  • Construction Materials
  • Structural Engineering

Graduate Students

Graduate degree programs are available in the following areas.

  • Architectural Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Environmental and Water Resources Engineering

Upon application for admission to the university, graduate students must indicate a specialty, generally corresponding to the technical areas on the left menu. More information about applying to graduate programs in a specific technical area can be found by following the appropriate link in the menu on the left. Information about graduate application to the University in general and CAEE in particular can be found in Graduate Admissions.

Additionally, a dual-degree undergraduate program is available with the School of Architecture and a dual-degree graduate program is available with the LBJ School of Public Affairs.

Engineering Communication

All engineers have to communicate their results to a variety of audiences. In order to help students prepare for the workplace and succeed in their classes, CAEE has a program in Engineering Communication at the undergraduate and graduate levels. These courses focus on communicating information in presentations and documents, both verbally and graphically. Please see the Technical Communication in CAEE page.
