Students Daniel Sierra and Shawn Griffiths are the recipients of the 2014 Kuhn Family Intellectual Entrepreneurship Award. The award winners are selected by the DDCE Intellectual Entrepreneurship (IE) Pre-Graduate Internship Program at UT Austin.

This award is unique in that it provides a stipend to both the selected undergraduate and their departmental mentor.

Both students are earthquake engineering researchers and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Daniel is a civil engineering senior and NSF REU research student working with Assistant Professor Brady Cox.  Shawn, a Ph.D. student, is his mentor.

Designed to encourage first generation undergraduate students to pursue their academic passions, this award finances opportunities to travel to research conferences and visit potential graduate schools. Award recipients also participate in a Pre-Graduate school internship the semester they receive their award.

Daniel and Shawn are one of only nine teams selected across the university.
