Professor Jorge Zornberg recently received the 2014-15 Mercer Lecture Award from the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) and the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS).

As part of this award Zornberg will be honored by delivering the Mercer Lecture in events organized in North America, Europe and Asia. In doing so, he will bring even greater recognition to our CAEE community across three continents.

The award was established in 1992 in honor of Brian Mercer, OBE FRS (1927-1998), the inventor of geogrids and a strong advocate for innovation, research and development. The key objective of the lecture is to help promote the co-operation of information exchange between the geotechnical engineering profession and the geosynthetics industry worldwide.

Zornberg currently serves as President of the IGS and also chairs the International Activities Council of the Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He has been awarded three patents, authored over 330 technical publications, and has delivered numerous keynote lectures around the world.
