Students in the Architectural Engineering program at The University of Texas of Austin take four years of coursework in science, math and design. These courses are the foundation to a successful future in any engineering discipline related to making buildings.

The 1st two years of the program focus on fundamental courses such as chemistry, calculus, geology, physics, mechanics and thermodynamics. Architectural history and computer methods are also part of the 1st two years.

The 3rd and 4th years of the program are centered on analysis and design courses specifically focused on the engineering of buildings.

During the 3rd year there is a two-semester design studio sequence which teaches the integration of architecture and engineering systems.

Students focus on a technical topic by their 4th year such as structural systems, HVAC systems, energy analysis or construction/project management. The final spring semester involves a capstone course where students design the engineering and construction details of a commercial building, focusing on integrated design concepts and professional preparation.
